What does a firefighter do?

• Inspects and maintains firefighting equipment and vehicles

What does the day-to-day life of a firefighter look like?

A firefighter usually works in shifts, which can vary depending on the fire station and location. They may work for 24 hours straight and then have 48 hours off, or they may work shorter shifts, such as 8 or 12 hours. During their shifts, firefighters are always ready to respond to emergencies. On a typical day, a firefighter may engage in various activities such as training, cleaning and maintaining equipment, conducting inspections, and performing community outreach.

Where does a firefighter work?

Firefighters work in fire stations located in cities, towns, and rural areas. They are employed by fire departments, which can be part of local government or private organizations.

What tools/equipment does a firefighter use?

A firefighter uses a variety of tools and equipment including:

• Protective gear: This includes helmets, fire-resistant clothing, gloves, and boots to protect from heat and flames.
• Firefighting equipment: Water hoses, fire extinguishers, axes, ladders, and hydraulic tools to extinguish fires and rescue people.

What do I need to become a firefighter?
